Triumph TR6 Tires

Longstone recommends Michelin XAS 165HR15 or PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 165HR15 for your classic Triumph TR6. The 165HR15 Michelin XAS is recommended for Triumph TR6s because it was the original equipment tire on a TR6. It is a high-quality asymmetric sports car tire that will improve the handling and directional stability of your TR6. The 165 HR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO TM CN36 is another genuine period tire created by one of the world's top tire manufacturers. The CINTURATO TM will provide superb progressive predictable handling.

The CINTURATO is a more sporting tire, better suited to tougher driving, but the XAS's asymmetric technology allows vintage sports vehicles to move in a straight line more easily, making it more suited to cruising and highway driving. The XAS will still hold its own under hard driving, much as the CINTURATO will be comfortable on a motorway/highway, but it can be tough to find fault when comparing two of the greatest classic tires from the two top tire manufacturers in the market. After driving on any other rubber, either tire will be an upgrade.

Triumph TR6 Wider Tires

It is possible to fit lower profile tires to a TR6.  Some TR6 owners install 185/70R15 or 195/65R15 tires. We believe that if bigger tires enhanced the TR6's driving abilities, Triumph would have installed them as standard. If you wish to add a bigger tire, you must accept that you will sacrifice some of the light progressive handling that made automobiles of this era so enjoyable. We strongly advise against going wider than a 185/70VR15 tire.

You may mitigate the negative impacts by installing a vintage tire designed in cooperation with automobiles from the era. With their rounded shoulders, we recommend the 185/70 VR 15 Michelin XWX or 185/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO TM CN36. Both are authentic vintage tires designed to preserve the progressive handling.

Michelin Innertubes

At Longstone we know innertubes. From personal experience selling countless innertubes, hearing back from our customers, and our own experience driving classic and Vintage cars on track, road, and hill, we know what innertubes are the best. With the exception of a few unique tubes and sizes of tire, Michelin innertubes are always our first choice, offering the best performance and longevity, and doing so at a competitive price.

Triumph TR6 History

The Triumph TR6 is a sports car built by the Triumph Motor Company of England, who produced approximately 90,000 Triumph TR6 sports cars between 1969 and 1976.Out of the 94,619 TR6s made, only 8,370 were sold in the UK, with the majority of TR6 vehicles being shipped to the US.

Triumph Motor Cars had a small budget for the TR6's development, but even though the TR6's exterior design was significantly different from that of the TR4/TR4A/TR250/TR5 cars, the TR6's chassis, running gear, doors, windshield, and a large portion of the body was directly derived from the TR250/TR5 models. The bodywork was similar to that of the prior model, the renowned Triumph TR5, but the front and back ends were squared off, perhaps as part of a consultation agreement with Karmann.

All TR6 sports cars came equipped with inline six-cylinder engines. The engine was carburetted for the US market, as did the TR250 engine. The TR6, like the TR5, was fuel-injected for a variety of overseas countries, thus the TR6PI (petrol-injection) moniker. The Lucas mechanical fuel injection technology helped the domestic TR6 produce 150 horsepower and 164 pound-feet of torque. To make it easier to drive, the non-US TR6 variant was eventually detuned to 125 horsepower.

According to Autocar magazine, the early petrol-injected TR6 could accelerate from zero to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.2 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 120 mph.
