Crossply TR4 Tires
TR4 and TR4 A original equipment tires were 590 - 15 crossply tires. The 590 H 15 Avon Turbospeed is our choice of crossply tire for the TR4. However, on current roads, equipping your TR4 and TR4A with radial tires is more appropriate, and the majority of people nowadays do so.

Radial TR4 Tires
Longstone tires recommends fitting the 165-15 Michelin XAS as the best tire for a TR4 and TR4 A. Despite the fact that tire manufacturers developed wider, more modern low profile tires in 1968, Triumph continued to fit the 165-15 Michelin XAS to a TR6 because these sports cars handle much better on narrow progressive tires. The 165 HR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 is another excellent alternative for these cars since they are true period tires designed in the 1950s, an incredible sports car tire well suited to cars like the TR4 and TR4A, and they look wonderful.
People sometimes wish to fit bigger tires to the TR4, TR4A, and other automobiles from this era. Longstone does not recommend this unless you perform additional improvements to compensate for the negative effect bigger tires will have on the handling of your TR4 or TR4A. If you desire a wider tire, the 185/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is the best alternative. The CN36 is a vintage tire with a carcass built for non-power-steering automobiles such as the Triumph TR4. They are meant to handle in a progressive manner, which will fit your car better than a current tire developed to compliment a completely different car design.

Triumph TR4 Innertubes
The TR4 fitted either wire wheels, or standard tube-type wheels throughout its production run. Innertubes are required for both these wheel-types. Some modern wire wheels claim to be tubeless. At Longstone we have personally seen too many failures to trust the 'tubeless' status of modern wire wheels, in-house all wire wheels are fitted with innertubes. The ideal innertube for all the tires recommended above is the Michelin 15E.
Borrani Wire Wheels
Borrani wheels for your Triumph TR4 are available. As representatives for the legendary Ruote Borrani Milano company, we can offer all of their wheels.
Ruote Borrani Milano wire wheels are without a doubt the greatest wire wheels available. Borrani wheels are constructed with aluminium rims, steel spokes, and steel wheel centres. If your Borrani wheels need to be rebuilt, please email us at [email protected].
Borrani wheels are available in a variety designs, including a painted silver finish, similar to racing wheels of the time, a polished and chrome finish, with a highly polished rim, chrome spokes and wheel centre, and a painted finish with a polished outside edge.

History of the Triumph TR4
Built between 1961 and 1965, the Triumph TR4 was a two-seater sports car with legendary Michelotti design. As the TR3A's replacement, the automobile was built on the chassis and motor of the preceding TR sports cars. The TR4 and TR4A were well-known vehicles that won several races in both America (three TR4As finished first, second, and third in the 1966 Sebring 12 hour race) and Europe. The TR4 and TR4A both had an expanded bore 2138cc engine, with the main difference being that the TR4A was built on a revised chassis and had a more sophisticated rear suspension to provide a more comfortable ride.
The TR4A with IRS (independent rear suspension) replaced the TR4 in 1965. Aside from the rear suspension, which featured trailing arms and a differential connected to the new chassis frame, and a few other stylistic tweaks, the two vehicles seem almost identical. In actuality, an estimated 25% of TR4As did not have IRS and instead used a live axle arrangement identical to the TR4, which was altered to match the new chassis. In all, 40,253 units were manufactured.
