Lamborghini Miura Tire Pressures
To buy classic tires see our Lamborghini Miura Tires page.
- Typical tire pressures for the Lamborghini Miura generally fall between 30–51 PSI, depending on model, year, and tire size.
- To find the ideal tire pressures to match your car's year, model, and chosen tires follow the link to our Lamborghini Miura Tire Pressure Guides.
- Longstone's recommended Lamborghini Miura P400 tire is the 205 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72.
- For Miura P400S models on 215/70 R15, we recommend the 215/70 R 15 96W PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 or 215/70 VR15 Michelin XWX.
- For Miura P400S models on 215/70 R15 front and 225/70 R15 rear tires, we recommend the 215/70 VR15 Michelin XWX and 225/70 WR 15 Michelin XWX.

Lamborghini Miura P400 Tires (1966–1969)
The early Lamborghini Miura P400, introduced in March 1966 and produced until late 1969, was originally fitted with 210 R15 radial tires from the new PIRELLI CINTURATO HS range, using the newly developed 572 tread pattern. These tires were mounted on 7J × 15 Campagnolo alloy wheels front and rear. At this stage, radial tire nomenclature was still evolving, and the 210 R15 size would soon be standardized as 205 R15. Likewise, as Pirelli’s range became more clearly structured, the 572 tread pattern was formally designated as the PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72 HS.
As a result, the original and recommended Lamborghini Miura P400 tire is the 205 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72.
Modern examples of this tire still carry the HS (High-Speed) marking on the sidewall, denoting an early high-speed classification introduced before modern speed-rating standards were fully established. In practical terms, this corresponds closely to what would later become a V speed rating (149 mph / 239 km/h). Modern production versions of the tire carry an explicit V marking on the sidewall, although, somewhat confusingly, the tire is now manufactured to an even higher W speed rating (168 mph / 270 km/h). The large sidewall speed marking reads V to preserve the tire’s historical appearance, while a smaller technical marking indicates the actual certified speed rating.
Lamborghini Miura P400 Original Tires
The PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72, formally introduced in 1966, was developed to meet the growing demand for sustained high-speed road use as a new generation of increasingly powerful performance cars emerged. Its tread design was engineered to improve stability, reduce noise, and deliver more refined road manners at higher speeds. The CN72 was widely adopted across leading Italian performance cars of the period, including Ferrari’s 250 GT, 275 GTB, and 400 Superamerica, as well as the Maserati 4000 and 5000. From 1967, Lamborghini also adopted the CN72 for the 350 GT, 400 GT, and Miura, establishing it as one of the defining high-performance road tires of the late 1960s.

Lamborghini Miura P400S Tires (1968–1971)
Despite the new model designation, the Lamborghini Miura P400S (1968–1971) did not introduce a fixed new tire specification at launch. Instead, tire fitment evolved gradually during production as wider, lower-profile performance tires became available from Pirelli and Michelin.
Early P400S cars built in late 1968 and early 1969 could and did leave the factory on 205-section tires mounted on 7J × 15 wheels, identical to those fitted to Miura P400 models. Our recommended early P400S tire is the 205 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN72. This overlap reflects tire availability rather than a deliberate engineering change and was typical of low-volume Italian manufacturers of the period.
During 1969, as 70-series radial performance tires became consistently available, Lamborghini adopted 215/70 R15 tires for the Miura S, fitted to 7J × 15 front wheels. These tires offered improved high-speed stability and heat control while maintaining an acceptable rolling radius and preserving the Miura’s neutral handling balance. For cars running this configuration, the correct classic tire is the 215/70 R 15 96W PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 or the 215/70 VR15 Michelin XWX, both of which are period-correct high-speed classic radial tires.
Best Tires for Lamborghini Miura P400S
The PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 and the Michelin XWX are both correct period tires, but they deliver their performance in slightly different ways. The CN12 has the edge for sporting feel, with sharper steering response and a more direct, grippy character, while the XWX is best known for high-speed composure and stability.
Where a Miura P400S runs 215/70 R15 all round, we recommend the PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 as it has the best performance. Where the car is fitted with 215/70 R15 front and 225/70 R15 rear on 8J × 15 rear wheels, the Michelin XWX is the correct choice because it is the only top-quality classic tire made in both sizes, allowing matched treads front and rear for predictable handling.
Unlike the later Miura SV, staggered tire widths were not universally applied across all P400S cars, and period documentation shows genuine variation depending on build date, market, and supplier.

Lamborghini Miura P400SV Tire Fitment
Lamborghini Miura P400SV Tires (1971–1973)
The Miura P400SV (1971–1973) introduced a significant change in fitment, moving to a staggered setup. It was fitted with 215/70 R15 tires on 7J × 15 front wheels and wider 255/60 R15 tires on 9J × 15 rear wheels.
Longstone recommends the 215/70 R 15 96W PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 for the front and the 255/60 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12 for the rear.
On the Miura SV, it is especially important to keep the tread design matched front and rear. The car’s wider rear wheels and tire section are fundamental to its stability and neutral handling balance at high speeds. The CN12 is the tire Lamborghini fitted in period, and it is the only top-quality classic tires available today in both 215/70 R15 and 255/60 R15 sizes, making it the correct and best period solution for the SV’s unique arrangement.
Lamborghini Miura Inner Tubes
The Lamborghini Miura P400 and P400S fitted mostly tube-type wheels as standard throughout production. Accordingly, inner tubes are always required when driving a Miura P400/S on original wheels, even if the tires you fit are capable of running tubeless. Both the tire and the wheel need to be tubeless in order to have a proper tubeless fitment.
- The ideal tube for 205 R15, 215/70 R15, and 225/70 R15 tires is the Michelin 15/17H Offset Valve Inner Tube.
Tires with a profile below 70% (for example, 255/60 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN12) must not fit inner tubes. As such, the 9J × 15 rear wheel will have the safety hump that qualifies the wheel as tubeless. We do not have direct evidence that the front wheel of the Miura SV was also tubeless; if in doubt, fit a tube.
We always recommend Michelin's tubes because they are of the highest build quality, offering the best driving outputs and failing significantly less than other tubes.

Lamborghini Miura Tire Pressure & Fitment Guides
Advances in tire technology frequently prompt owners to question if original factory pressure specifications are still applicable. Pirelli has addressed this directly:
“Our philosophy is to reproduce as closely as possible the original tire characteristics using new processes and materials thus to maintain the handling of the vehicle the same. This means, yes we maintain the original handbook pressures.”
