The Jaguar XJS originally fitted ER/70 VR 15 Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet. Later the Jaguar XJS moved onto the 205/70R15 Pirelli P5. The V12 XJS HE fitted 215/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5 tires.

Jaguar XJS Tires

In the 1970s, Jaguar requested that Pirelli create a special tire for its luxury vehicles, such as the XJS. It was the first time a car manufacturer told a tire maker specifically what rubber they wanted. The Pirelli P5 tire was tested and homologated as the XJS tire by Jaguar in 1979. Recently Jaguar has requested Pirelli to re-produce the P5 tires for their premium vehicles. Jaguar has tested the P5 again and homologated it with the 'J'. There is not a better tire than one homologated for your car by a premium tire manufacturer, so the Pirelli P5 was and remains our recommendation for the Jaguar XJS.

The original Jaguar XJ-S fitted ER/70 VR 15 Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet, however Jaguar soon improved the XJS by fitting 205/70R15 Pirelli P5. Longstone recommends the 205/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO™ P5 for early 6 cylinder Jaguars XJS cars.

XJS HE Tires

Jaguar XJS at Longstone

The V12 version of Jaguar's XJS fitted 215/70VR15 tires. Again we would recommend the 215/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P5. The Michelin 15/17H will be the best fit for these tires if an innertube is needed.

From 1987 Jaguar moved the XJS HE 3.6 and XJS 4.0 onto 235/60 WR 15 Pirelli P600 tires. Then in the mid 90's the XJS Jaguar offered the option of more modern 16” wheels and tires, that are not yet available through Longstone.

XJR-S Wheels

The first 1988 Jaguar XJR-S V12 fitted 235/60R15 Pirelli P600 to the 5.3 litre version with 7.5” wide 15” wheels. Following September 1989 the later Jaguar 6.0 XJS-R V12 fitted 225/50-16 front, 245/55R16 rear.

Initially with Dunlop D40’s until the late 80’s Goodyear Eagle’s were fitted. Neither of these tires are currently in production. At time of writing the best options for the Jaguar XJS-R 6.0 V12 wheels are 225/50YR16 Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico front and slightly wider 255/50R16 Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico on the rear. The only other good option is Michelin, who also make the Pilot Sport that fits the 8” X 16” XJR-S wheels as they are Ferrari Testarossa fitment.

Jaguar XJS History

The first Jaguar XJS was introduced in 1975. The Jaguar V12 petrol engine provided the power, with an option of manual or automatic transmission, however the manual was quickly discarded. V12 automobiles were uncommon at the period, with notable exceptions coming from Italian luxury classic sports car manufacturers Lamborghini and Ferrari. The XJS's characteristics were comparable to those of Italian automobiles; it could accelerate to 60 mph in 8.9 seconds (slow by today's standards, but pretty good for the 1970s!) and hit a top speed of 142 mph.
