1972 Ford Escort Mk 1 RS2000
Ford Escort Mk1 Tires
The 155 R 12 tire was standard on the first Mk1 Escort. For a Ford MK1 Escort 110 or 1300 basic model, we would recommend the 155 R 12 Nankang. Some MK1 Ford Escort cars used 165 R 13 Michelin ZX tires, however we would now suggest the 165 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF for this size.
Ford Escort Mk2 Tires
The 155 HR 13 Michelin XAS FF would be great for a Ford Escort MK II. It is possible to fit 175/70VR13 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 on 4.5" or 5" wheels if you have these sizes. Some MK2 Escorts retained 12" wheels, which are best suited to a 155 R 12 Nankang. With the goal of improving road safety, Ford began offering PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ radial tires in the spring of 1968. 175/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO ™ CN36 tires for a Ford Escort MK I Mexico, GT, RS1600, RS1800, and RS2000.

Some base model MK3 Escorts would be well suited for a 145HR13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 or a 155HR13 Michelin XAS FF; both top quality tires in this size. The 185/60 VR 14 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 tire is recommended for the majority of MK3 Ford Escort models, including the XR3 and XR3i. The Michelin Pilot Sport PE2 is an excellent choice for many MK3 Escorts because it delivers sporty handling and excellent grip, allowing for maximum performance while maintaining a high safety standard.

155 R12 tires fit a Michelin 12D innertube, 145 R13 tires take a Michelin 13CG, for 155 R13 and 165 R13 tires a Michelin 13D fits best, and 175/70 R13 tires fit a 13E. Innertubes are not a necessity for radial tires of this size, but it can still be advantageous when compared to going tubeless. The rest of the tires have a profile lower than 70% (eg 185/60 VR 14 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2) and cannot fit innertubes whatsoever.
Ford Escort RS
The 195/50 VR 15 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 would fit the Escort RS Turbo from 1989, RS2000 16V from 1991, and RS2000 4X4 from 1992. Pirelli has remade the original 225/45 R 16 Pirelli P700-Z tires built for the Ford Escort RS Cosworth.

A: The mk1 Escort, also known as the Dog Bone Escort because of the shape of its radiator grille fitted 12” wheels, with 155 R12 tires. PIRELLI CINTURATO radial tires were offered for these cars. Some of these very early cars may also have fitted 5.50-12 crossply tires. The more sporting Dog Bone Escorts came fitted with 175/70R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36.

The Mark One Escort was built as a successor for the Anglia in 1967 across facilities in Germany and Britain and went on to become one of Ford's most popular vehicles outside of the United States. Later versions were also available for rallying, where it created a reputation for itself, most notably by winning the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally piloted by Hannu Mikkola. As a result of this success, Ford Mexico created a limited edition 1.6 L road version of the rally vehicle. The Mark Two Escort would take over in 1975, where it would enjoy a long rally career as well as popularity as a road vehicle, with L, GL, Sport, RS Mexico, RS2000, and Ghia variants all being built.
