BMW 6 Series Tires 1976–1989

BMW 6 Series 628 CSi Tires
BMW E24 628 CSi Tires
195/70 R14 tires were the factory standard equipment for the BMW 628 CSi (1979–1987). The 195/70VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is the very best BMW 628 CSi tire in this size.
Starting in May 1982, the new 628 CSi variants came with millimetric 165TR wheels and 220/55 R390 tires, or 6.5J wheels and 205/70 R14 tires.
The 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 and the 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX are the highest quality BMW 628 CSi 205/70 R14 tires. The Michelin TRX 220/55 WR 390 is the best 220/55 R390 6 Series tire.
BMW E24 630 CSi Tires
The 1976–1979 BMW 630 CSi was equipped with 195/70 VR 14 tires. The 195/70VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is the perfect tire for the BMW E24 630 CSi.
BMW E24 633 CSi Tires
When the BMW 633 CSi was first released in 1976, it was equipped with 195/70 R14 tires, a size that it kept through its whole production. For the BMW 633 CSi 6-series, we recommend the 195/70VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 tire.

BMW 6 Series 635 CSi Tires
BMW E24 635 CSi Tires
Up until 1982, the BMW 635 CSi (1978–1984) was equipped with 195/70 R14 tires. We recommend the 195/70VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 as the best BMW 635 CSi tire.
In May 1982 the BMW 635 CSi switched to 6.5J wheels with 205/70 R14 tires, or 165TR wheels and 220/55 R390 tires. The 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX or the 205/70VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 are the 205/70 R14 best 635 CSi tires in the 205/70 R14 size.
We recommend the 220/55 WR 390 Michelin TRX for a BMW 635 CSi with millimetric wheels.
Later 635 CSi vehicles choose to use 7J-15 wheels and 225/60 R15 tires in place of millimetric wheels. We recommend a set of 225/60 VR 15 Avon CR6ZZ or 225/60 R 15 B.F.Goodrich Radial T/A tires if you require 225/60 R15 tires.
The Avon CR6ZZ is a high-performance race tire with an V speed rating (up to 149 mph), known for its superior grip in dry conditions and designed specifically for track performance over road longevity, meaning output is excellent but it won't last as long as a road tire on regular roads.
On the other hand, the B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A is a versatile road tire with an S speed rating (up to 112 mph), featuring the raised white lettering of American muscle car tires (which can be mounted inside for a subtler look), and offering a more cost-effective, durable option for everyday use. While the Avon CR6ZZ is pricier and sportier due to its motorsport focus, the B.F. Goodrich provides better all-season capabilities and longevity for regular driving.
In May 1988, 15-inch BBS Style 5 wheels—derived from the E34 5 Series—became the standard wheel for the BMW E24 635CSi model in continental Europe. The tires that went with them were sized 225/55 R15. We advise fitting 225/60 R15 tires with a set of 225/60 VR 15 Avon CR6ZZ or 225/60 R 15 B.F.Goodrich Radial T/A as the 225/55 R15 size is not presently available for purchase.
BMW E24 M635 CSi/M6 Tires
Tire size for the BMW M635 CSi was 240/45 R415. The 240/45VR415 Michelin TRX GT is the perfect BMW M635 CSi tire in this size.

Michelin 14F Inner Tube
BMW E24 6 Series Inner Tubes
According to our period BMW E24 Fitment Guides, all early 6-Series cars had tube-type wheels which indicates they need innertubes. The majority of 6 Series cars transitioned to tubeless wheels between 1978 and 1981. You'll probably have tube-type wheels if your model is from before 1978, and tubeless wheels if your car is from after 1981.
When you replace your tires next time, make sure to inspect your wheels if your automobile lies between these dates. The Michelin 14F is the appropriate inner tube for 195/70 R14 and 205/70 R14 tires for the BMW 6 Series. Tires with a profile less than 70% (e.g., 220/55 WR 390 Michelin TRX) are tubeless.
BMW 6 Series E24 Alpina Tires
Sixth generation BMW E24 Alpina adaptations have 16" wheels with 205/55 R16 front and 225/50 R16 rear tires. For the front and back in these sizes, we recommend the 205/55YR16 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 and 225/50 YR 16 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7, respectively.

BMW 6 Series Tire Pressure & Fitment Guides
Recent advancements in rubber formulations, safety standards, and tire manufacturing techniques have prompted questions about the relevance of older tire pressure guidelines. This issue was recently discussed with a representative from Pirelli.
"Our philosophy is to reproduce as closely as possible the original tire characteristics using new processes and materials thus to maintain the handling of the vehicle the same. This means, yes we maintain the original handbook pressures.”
