- Tire pressure for an Austin Healey ranges from 22-30 PSI depending on the specific model, the type of tires that you decide to fit, and pressure differences for front and rear tires.
- For an Austin Healey fitted with 180 HR 15 Michelin XAS we suggest a pressure of 28 PSI on the front and 30 PSI at the rear is ideally suited to high speed cruising on modern roads.
- To find the ideal tire pressures for your car's year, model, and chosen tires follow the link to our Tire Pressure Guide.
- The Austin Healey originally fitted 5.90 X 15 Dunlop RS5. Our recommended Austin Healey tire is the Michelin 180 HR 15 XAS, which is still available today.

Crossply Austin Healey Tires
The original tire for the Austin Healey 3000 was a 5.90 X 15 Dunlop RS5, which is no longer manufactured. We propose the 590 H 15 Avon Turbospeed as the ideal Crossply fitting. A crossply tire configuration will not be optimal for modern highways with higher sustained driving speeds, when high levels of grip and directional stability are more valuable.
A traditional crossply is also not the greatest option if you desire top performance and progressive handling. A Crossply, on the other hand, was the original tire fitted to an Austin Healey 3000, and would provide a more authentic depiction of the Healey as a part of history. Crossply tires would also provide a softer, more pleasant ride for the driver, but if you travel for long periods of time on the highway, a radial tire would provide the best overall driving experience.
Modern Austin Healey Tires
Austin Healey tire selections have long been a source of contention. One of the biggest issues with fitting an appropriate tire to an Austin Healey is that the cars are inherently quite low and there isn't a lot of ground clearance beneath the chassis. To that end, a core problem with Austin Healeys is the use of modern, wide, low profile rubber that is all too frequently too wide and low for the car, resulting in numb, heavy steering and bottoming out on uneven surfaces.
Radial Austin Healey Tires
A 165 - 15 is the most typical radial alternative size. Longstone would recommend the 165 HR 15 Michelin XAS tires if you require 165 R 15 tires. Many Austin Healey models, however, were equipped with 4.5-inch or larger wheels. Longstone's extensive experience working with historic automobiles, including many beautiful Austin Healey cars, has led us to believe that another radial alternative would be superior. We have no doubt that the Michelin 180 HR 15 XAS asymmetric tires are the ideal rubber for your Austin Healey, letting it handle better and also look better, than any other road tire.
The 180 HR 15 XAS's height provides an accurate relationship to the gearing and speedo, and the exhaust pipe is cleared from damage from speed bumps or potholes. These issues are mitigated by the 180 HR 15 Michelin XAS because it has roughly the same diameter and ride-height as the original 590x15 Dunlop. Furthermore, the tire's compact footprint will provide the vehicle with lighter, more responsive steering.

Austin Healey Racing Tires
A 185/70R15 radial tire is another popular radial tire size for the Austin Healey, with this size being better suited to the road rallying and racing environments. The 185/70VR15 Avon CR6ZZ is the one to get if you want to fit a larger tire.
Austin Healey Innertubes
Austin Healeys were equipped with wire wheels, which necessitated the use of innertubes in the tires. Fortunately, the same diameter tube may be used to suit 590-15, 165R15, 180R15, or 185/70R15 tires. Michelin makes the best tubes, and the tube size is 15E, thus we recommend the Michelin 15E innertube for the Austin Healey.

Austin Healey 100/4 Tires
Donald Mitchell Healey, a successful engineer and race driver from Warwick, developed and built the Healey 100/4, a two-seater sports car powered by a 2.6-litre four-cylinder engine, (hence the 4 after 100) in 1945. The automobile debuted in the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show, garnering a huge amount of attention not just from the media, but also from the general public, and there was a lot of demand to build the car.
Austin Healey 100/6 Tires
The Austin Healey 100/6, the next generation automobile, was introduced in October 1956. The new car had received more development than its predecessor and was equipped with a six-cylinder engine, therefore the designation of 100/6. This all came about as a result of the Austin Healey 100/4's triumph in motorsport. Back then, as it is now, success on the track was rewarded with success in the showroom.

More success and development culminated in the Austin Healey 3000. Announced on July 1, 1959, with a 3-litre BMC C-Series motor to replace the smaller 2.6-litre engine of the 100-6. It was designed to reach 60 mph in 11 seconds, according to the makers, and featured front disc brakes to handle the increased power. It is still widely regarded as one of the greatest British vehicles ever manufactured!
Austin Healey Borrani Wheels
Many Austin Healey cars were fitted with wire wheels, and it just so happens that Longstone has a relationship with the best in the business. Borrani stand above all other wire wheel manufacturers in a number of ways. Ruote Borrani Milano is a major supplier of wire wheels to several other well-known vehicle manufacturers, including Ferrari and Maserati. Borrani wheels weigh around 25% less than purely steel wire wheels as the rims are made from aluminium, and they are handcrafted in Italy to the greatest quality standards. We can't think of a better way to the look of your Austin Healey than with a set of Borrani wheels, click the Borrani link at the top of the screen to see their website.
